Report

The Police got back to winning ways at Glades Sporting today after a heavy loss at the hands of littleton and an extended break due to the weather. Richard Adams took over captain duties as Mitchell Hodge was ruled out through injury.

The game was played on a poor surface following heavy rain and this lead to a lack of stand-out quality in the play from both sides.

The first half was a cagey affair with few chances but Glades took the lead when a free-kick was swept towards goal. The returning Simon Williams came to punch the ball away but the wind possibly caused the goalkeeper to misjudge the flight and the ball nestled in the far corner.

The Police thought they had equalised but Matty Lewis was ruled offside despite the ball coming off a defender. They were not behind for long as a free-kick from Dan Jarratt caused mayhem in the Glades area and Lawrence Shannon pounced to drive home on the half-volley to level the game at half time.

The Police came out for the 2nd half after a disappointing 1st and almost immediately took the lead when a run and cross from Jarratt allowed Nurse to force the keeper to tip the ball onto the post, only for Nurse to head home the rebound. Nurse then spurned a decent chance when given the oppurtunity after a neat back header from Shannon and saw his volley saved by the keeper.

It didnt take long for the 3rd to come as Steve Windle played in Nurse to round the keeper and as he was about tap home, he was fouled and a penalty given. To the surprise of many, the defender was only punished with a yellow card instead of a clear red. Nurse picked himself up to smash home the penalty. A 4th followed minutes later when Steve Windle struck a fierce shot from outside the area that the keeper was unable to keep out.

Nurse completed his hat-trick with a low, left footed shot before Matt Lewis got the goal he deserved when he brilliantly tackled the ball in on the slide after a mix-up in the glades area. Steve Windle bagged his 2nd of the game late on after Shannon saw his shot saved.

a very good 2nd half performance from the police played in tough conditions and good spirit showed to come back after being behind.
